While we are in this uncertain time, there are certain measures that need to be taken in order to ensure students and teachers are able to be as safe as possible. One is keeping distance between each student. As you can imagine, this is not easy or welcoming, especially in Kindergarten. Young students learn through play and movement and while I will have desks in my classroom, I want to offer them a second option for somewhere to sit. In previous years, I had a big carpet for students to sit on and transition to. Unfortunately because of the safety measures that are required, this is not possible right now. I believe offering students their own cushions will give them the opportunity for more natural movement and the ability to transition and get wiggles out throughout the day while still keeping a 6 foot distance from one another. In addition to these circular mats, I want to provide each student with a magnetic cup holder that can be attached to their desks. Water fountains cannot be used, so students will each have a personal water bottle. I am hoping that by having these cup holders, spills will be minimized and students will always know where their water bottles are.
