Our youth needs systemic change in terms of racial justice. The smallest act of acknowledging our identity can make lasting and important impressions in our schools. I never thought of the monumental impact a simple skin tone bandage could have on a person until I read a post on social media which read, "It has taken me 42 trips around the sun and today I was offered a bandage that matched the color of my skin. I cried." Let's stop and think about that. That post prompted me to order as many diversity bandages as I could. I shared them with teachers in my building. The responses I had from my students were positive and appreciative. Diversity bandages should be a staple in every classroom...a small yet powerful step in creating a new normal with respect.
