These materials will not only enhance my student's learning experience and comprehension, but they'll also help to change their perception of what learning looks like. While my students still enjoy learning via online platforms, they were forced to resort to the sole use of technology as a means of learning during the quarantine, and unfortunately many of them have come from elementary schools where reading, writing and math had to be the main focus. They've never experienced a hands on Science class, and that's what biology is supposed to be! We will be thoroughly analyzing these specimens to master the anatomy and physiology of the brain, but I plan to also tie in the effects of drug use and concussions on our brain. I also plan to use this opportunity to tie in conversations around the importance of mental health, what that means and what is actually happening in someone's brain when they are battling various mental health conditions.
