Mindfulness in the classroom is about learning to train our student's attention to be in the present moment without fretting about the past or the future. My hopes for this club would be to teach our young students, grades 2nd through 5th grade, the ability to be aware of the body in the present while learning about how their emotions feel in the moment. We will be using yoga to explore our bodies and learn how our bodies move and feel. In addition, exploring mindfulness is creating crafts to remind us to breath and relax while being playful. Lastly, knitting can actually create connections in the brain while creating art to support our community. Making this club available for students during school and after school will make this a more equitable time for students while learning about self awareness. Right now, many of our young students are needing some tools to handle tough situations. Using this club can help them find resiliency within themselves and give them the tools for empowerment over many challenging events.
