Teaching PE in today's world can at time be problematic, not because the students don't want to move and play, but because of the outside factors that create a sedentary lifestyle for so many individuals. Kids don't play outside much anymore when they are not in school. Sometimes it is because parents are afraid for their safety, or due to the heat in AZ, but usually it is the result of a technological device. Today’s kids always seem to be connected to technology in one way shape or form. We would like to use Fitbits as a motivator for movement and a key to understanding how their bodies are positively impacted by purposeful movement. Fitbit technology will provide the students instantaneous data about there heart rate during an activity and how many calories that activity burns. They will be able to analyze their activity habits by using the Fitbit data and make the changes needed to reach their personal fitness goals.
