All of these supplies will go to support working with students with behavioral struggles that often are connected to a history of trauma, mental health disabilities, or ongoing struggles. I work with these students specifically to help them reengage in school and begin the focus on academics. Our referral data for behavior supports shows an increased number of students in kindergarten and first grade being referred. With the impact of COVID-19 on these students, they missed out on essential social emotional growth and development. These students were often home with minimal interaction with peers and sometimes left on their own without any human interaction. More primary grade students came to school this year without any of the basic skills needed for school as well as an increase with students exhibiting behavior relating to trauma responses, anxiety and depression. The standards supported through this project include Speaking and Listening standards to support students in acquiring the basic skills to interact with peers and adults (S.L 1 a,b,c) and (SL 4), being able to converse and retell and show understanding of important lessons taught (RL 2), and important social studies standards including (SS.K1-8)where students learn to interact with each other and work together in the classroom and greater community. I will use these supplies in conjunction with evidence-based curriculum such as Skillstreaming, in order to support students in improving their social skills including classroom behavior, engagement, mental wellness, and targeted social emotional learning. Students will use the fidgets so that they are able to better regulate and focus in the classroom.
