Providing students with a variety of seating choices will allow them to feel more comfortable, feel in control of their learning, and promote a positive and interactive atmosphere. Using the standing desk, comfortable chairs, low chairs, cushions and room dividers, I will create designated areas for students to work in groups or to work independently. The design makes students more visible, since they are in organized areas around the room, which enhances our communication when we transition activities or when they need personalized attention. The goal is to meet the needs of all students by giving them a choice of a "calming" area, "collaborative" area, "tech" station, and standing station. These areas will be possible when we integrate the new furniture. Small room dividers will create some privacy between different groups creating a more productive learning environment, with all students still visible, and will help to establish the areas with different seating options. This flexible design will allow my students to choose where they want to sit, and will inspire them to choose where they learn best.
