The materials and supplies will help my students develop the essential skills they will need to succeed in the new world of 21st-century learning. The main items in my list to help them are new books, stem activities, and essential supplies. My students have limited resources at home, which in return affects their performance at school and create a larger education gap. Having literature that students will connect with and get excited about reading will improve their literacy. Every day we spend at least 20 minutes independently reading because most students don't have the support/materials to do this at home. Giving them this time with literature that they will enjoy, will significantly improve their literacy skills. Improving literacy is important for all students to be successful. The STEM supplies on my list will mainly be used in our STEM bins and classroom makerspace. Students are given STEM bins and the makerspace to encourage creativity, ingenuity, and problems solving skills they will need for the future. I give my students STEM time every day, and the new supplies greatly need to encourage those skills. The final things on my list are classroom supplies and some flexible seating options. Most of my students cannot afford school supplies, and there is a limited budget for supplies. So, we run out of pencils, glue, and other essentials quickly. I want all my students to have meaningful lessons, and not have to plan those lessons around the supplies we use. Having these items will make lesson plans less limited. Also, flexible seating options will allow all students options on how they will learn best.
