Across the country, literacy scores have been continually dropping. To counteract this problem, educators have implemented countless program to help our children learn to read. While these programs are beneficial, it can create a negative connotation about reading, which should never happen! My class is full of 8th and 9th grade students who love to read and love to spread the word that reading can open doors to other worlds that you never knew existed. My students read in class every day, present in other classes about books, and share their love of reading with everyone in the school through weekly announcements. This project aims to help the students in my class dive deeper into reading by providing small reading "book clubs" within the class. While the project will specifically help my 35 advanced reading students, it will also benefit the student body as a whole because my students will take the books they are reading and share the stories with everyone in the school through their leadership role.
