Increasing academic achievement is the goal of every teacher in every classroom. I spend hours researching best practices and creating interesting projects to engage my students in their learning. However, one of the best ways to focus kids on learning is to give seating options. Watching one of my students improve the quantity and quality of her writing simply by working in a spot that allows her to wiggle and jiggle as she writes convinced me to make this request.The single stand up desk in my classroom is the most coveted spot in the room; my students are aware that their growing bodies do better stretched out than all cramped up in a chair for seven hours a day. With two more stand up desks in my room, my students can each have a turn with one for a half a day each week. They will feel supported by their community, and know that they have the tools to help them feel the success they work so hard for.
