For our students in temporary housing, sometimes basic necessities such as quality winter coats can be difficult to obtain. When students do not have proper attire for the cold winter months, they become more susceptible to illness and, in turn, poor attendance. Furthermore, being attired in a new, good-looking jacket will enhance self-esteem, which lends itself to improved academic performance. A quality winter coat will not only serve as physical protection from the cold, but will also bolster my students' feelings of self-worth and belonging. It will allow them to focus on matters that are age-appropriate, and it will alleviate one burden faced by their parents.
