All of the 6th Grade students in our school are given the 40 Book Challenge at the beginning of the school year. As a 6th grade team, we collectively support and cheer our students on as books are consistently read. This is a goal that the majority of our students are excited about, and it is a goal that they want to accomplish. We are thrilled when students offer updates on their progress. Every student in 6th Grade can check out a book from my classroom library. By offering a wide variety of book choices, more students will feel comfortable and confident in facing this challenge. As students are excited about what they are reading, they will continue to read, and literacy skills will continue to grow. Additionally, as students are exposed to a variety of texts, their own personal writing skills will expand and progress.
