My students depend on me to advocate for them. I believe that the classroom books will provide words and experiences that most of these children will not get to enjoy due to their low income households. The majority of my students don't have books at home, to complete at home reading assignments or even books to read for leisure. These books will be utilized in our classroom and in addition they get to check them out from our class! The flashcards allow my students a quick and fun way to enhance their math skills. I have had conferences with parents and suggested they get $1 flashcards from Dollar Tree and for some of them, that's not an option for them because they are more concerned with where is their next meal. Overall I want my students to be able to obtain materials that will add to their foundational literacy and math skills for the rest of their lives. These resources will help them learn to read and use numbers in ways that are LIFELONG skills!
