Adding games to our classroom will provide students the opportunity to develop problem solving skills, strengthen skills in strategy and communication, and build relationships with one another. Being able to build my classroom library will also help my students to develop new ideas and be exposed to varies types of writing. Students play a lot of games on electronic devices. Introducing board games to students will help them to solve problems in real time without the aid of computers. They will also have to find ways to strategize in order to work out different problems. They will find that there might be many ways to solve one problem, and the solution they thought was the best might not have been. Helping students understand there are multiple solutions will help open their minds as they face different situations in their own lives. Students will also learn to work together and communicate in order to accomplish a task. Learning to compromise or give up something so that a bigger goal can be achieve is also a life skill that games can teach. Students think that in order to have fun you have to win. Games provide a way to challenge our own minds and teach that, as long as we have fun and learn something new, we don't always have to win. We can step back and think about what we could have done differently and try again. Building up a library is also important to my classroom. Books are used to introduce new topics and ideas to the students. They are used to teach students how to think differently about concepts. They can also teach them about different types of writing. They are eager to hear new stories and learn new concepts.
