The book, Esperanza Rising, will be used to help students learn how to immerse themselves into a text and annotate and analyze the story while developing their love for reading. We have chosen this text because we feel our diverse group of students can easily relate to it. We would like to provide each of them with their own copy of the book to give them a sense of ownership and responsibility. Due to Covid restrictions, students are unable to share materials and work together in groups. If they are able to have their own copy, they will be able to bring the book back and forth to school. If our school is forced to close due to Covid, they will all be able to continue their reading experience at home seamlessly.
