As many of us know, math can cause some extreme anxiety in both teenagers and adults. To combat the seemingly overwhelming detest for math, my goal is to create a classroom where students feel relaxed and safe. To support the environment I try to create in my classroom, I need a physical space where students can unwind whilst working on their math skills. A beanbag and rugged area will help students realize - although math can be high stakes, approaching it with a calm and centered mind is vital to achieve true understanding. This physical area will help me create an environment where students feel free to move at their own pace without shame, blame or judgement.
