We germinated our butter lettuce and romaine lettuce seeds and transferred them to our hydroponic units. As you can see from the pictures, we harvested and created our salad kits to go home with students and staff. The great part about this is that my students are seeing the journey from seed to table and they able to try foods that they might otherwise not try. Students enjoyed planting them and watching our heads of lettuce grow. We checked the systems formally three times a week making sure the pH, water level, and nutrient levels were within normal limits. \r\n In this round we had a difficult time with the nutrient levels which led to some research and a call to people who sold us the units. The guy was so nice and was so willing to talk to my students by phone. He even offered to visit and work with my students. He is visiting next week in person. This is great as my students will work with him to learn more about the maintaining the systems themselves and hydroponic growing in general.\r\n Next up we will clean these systems and replant another round. We have had requests for basil so we will plant more of that this and also plant additional lettuce. In this round the basil didn't grow well which we now think had something to do with the high nutrient levels. We hope to complete additional cycles of transferring germinated seeds, harvesting, packing, and distributing salad kits before the school year ends.","fullyFundedDate":1718746186494,"projectUrl":"project/got-salad-salad-kits-to-go/8369292/","projectTitle":"Got Salad?
