While learning to read, write and analyze is extremely important in education, it is impossible to do these things without proper food and hygiene necessities. Many of my students experience food and housing instability and since the pandemic, these issues have been highlighted. Food such as soups, rice and beans can help students feel nourished and have more energy to learn. Hygiene products such as soap, deodorant and laundry detergent can help students to have one less monetary issue to think about. It is so difficult to concentrate on learning if you don't know where your next meal will come from or if you have enough money to buy toothpaste. These simple, basic materials that include food and hygiene products will immensely help my students to be able to concentrate on learning and not on their rumbling stomachs.
