In my classroom, the interactive whiteboard is used for both math and science lessons. The students enjoy interactive lessons! The students enjoy going up to the whiteboard and interacting or touching the images and/or information, which provides them with multiple opportunities for either visual or kinesthetic learning. For example, third graders can employ video exploration to activate prior knowledge in either math or science! It is my opinion and the research has shown that there is a strong correlation between high academic achievement and the usage of technology in the classroom! Interactive whiteboards stimulate the enthusiasm of both teachers and students and cause more efficient interaction and/or engagement in classes. At the same time, this will increase teachers' overall productivity and students' academic attainment. Unfortunately, my interactive whiteboard was not operational when I was assigned to my current classroom and is being used as a chalkboard. My district, like many school districts, does not have the funds to either replace and/or repair this valuable piece of equipment, and the impact on my students' learning is immeasurable! Therefore, both my third grade students and I would welcome the addition of an interactive Smartboard, complete with a cart!
