When students came back physically, it was hard for some of them to get out of the "screen mode" mentality. Most of our students have been learning on a device (whether it be a phone or a laptop/tablet) for the past two years. Slowly, they have adapted to returning to a physical mode, but they are still very attached to their devices (specifically cell phones). This year, our school recommends that we implement mental breaks during class time that avoids the use of devices when not being used for educational purposes. It is imperative that students get a mental break, especially after a year away from the physical educational environment. But, it is also imperative that students learn to ease off of phone usage. I want to make sure that students work on their social skills and also build on strategic and critical thinking skills! By helping me with my project, I am hoping to be able to accomplish both goals; I want my students to be able to have enriching, engaging mental breaks that help stimulate their brains and build on strategic and critical thinking skills!
