Fifth grade is an important year for my students. They are still in elementary school but yet they are quickly approaching their teenage years. I think exposing students to certain novels and studying it with guided support of a teacher will help enrich their reading skills and hopefully build lifelong lovers of reading. As an educator I try to get my students to stretch themselves and make new goals, I want to do the same. This year I would like to do book club groups with these books. Students will study a novel and present to their peers a book review. As students hear their peers sharing books they read, I hope it will light a fire within them to seek out that book, book series, or genre. These books were hand picked to include a variety of genres for students. These books also tie into our content areas beautifully.
