This set of novels will be added to the collection of texts available to teach at BGHS. The English department is striving to teach recent and relevant novels that students can relate to. We aim to create well-rounded students through literature, writing, language, and speaking and listening. "The Hate U Give" is a young adult novel that discusses issues we face as a society today such as racism and police brutality. Our goal is to promote a love for reading in our students and introduce them to young adult literature where they can see themselves in the main characters. We want to discuss real-world issues in our classrooms while keeping the heart of English classes at the center: literature.
