Because my students spend a majority of their day in our classroom, we will be learning math, reading, writing, science, social studies, and life skills every single day. When their sensory needs are met and they feel safe, they are able to learn better. The hands-on sight word, sentence building, and math activities provide tactile opportunities to learn. These activities will allow my students to practice turn-taking, as well. The rugs and pillows provide more comfortable seating throughout the classroom. The LEGOs will allow students to learn while doing something they love - building. Students are not able to learn unless they feel safe in a classroom. These materials will promote a sense of community and a sense of belonging within the classroom, which are crucial in ensuring that feeling of safety.
