Where do students meet in an early elementary classroom? The classroom rug of course! Our old classroom rug has been "loved" a little too much and we are in need of a new one to love! The classroom rug is much more than just a "rug". It is a physical spot in the classroom that signifies a nurturing environment. In an early elementary classroom, the classroom rug holds a spot for stories to be heard, concepts to be introduced, and is the home of inquiry and exploring. As one of the largest pieces of furniture in the classroom, the classroom rug sets the tone for a warm and welcoming classroom. By having a classroom rug, the students in my classroom will be able to find a spot for learning away from their desks that is comfortable and allows them to easily collaborate with their peers.
