Change is always overwhelming, especially in third grade which introduces new challenges such as EOG testing! If that wasn’t enough, often times students may come to school stressed out from prior events, which can set them up for an “off day”, or encounter a situation where they may get overwhelmed or frustrated. A “cool” zone will allow students to go and express their feelings by coloring, relaxing, journaling, utilizing stress relief techniques, and understanding their feelings are justified. My students will be given a few minutes to “cool off” and clear their minds in a safe space, and then will be able to return to their work with a positive mindset to achieve their goals!
