One of the biggest challenges of serving in a school within an urban setting is teacher retention. This has a crippling effect on our students ability to thrive in a sustaining environment. Along with struggling educator retention, district professional development is limited in it's vision. We have the opportunity to travel as a staff to the NCSS Conference in Austin, Texas. This conference will not only give us access to a plethera of teaching resources, but also allow us to revise and build upon our team vertical alignment plan. We serve in a community where community partnerships need to be fostered. Sessions on active civic engagment will enhance my practice by offering a strategic vision on how my students can better engage with their community on aspects such as voter registration. We hope to cultivate a Civics curriculum where our students can envision returning to their community to help serve.
