The pencil boxes help the students remain organized. Most students appreciate having a box of supplies to start the year. Students are welcome to use their own, but most come to school with nothing. The classroom decor is welcoming. I read aloud the first Harry Potter book which the class enjoys. My students enjoy seeing the different contact paper colors that represent the houses, and this color scheme carries through to all our subjects. Math is blue, like Ravenclaw. Reading is green, like Slytherin, writing is red, like Gryffindor, and content is yellow, like Hufflepuff. Vocabulary is displayed on the matching subject/house color.
