Grabbing the attention of seventh grade readers is much easier with high-interest novels. The Outsiders and We Beat the Street are two novels that even the most reluctant readers beg to keep reading. Our classroom copies of The Outsiders have been well-loved by generations of students at Oak Grove Middle, and these students deserve better than copies that are taped up and missing pages. This year, we are adding We Beat the Street to our curriculum. This year's 7th grade class has more students than previous classes. Many of our students come from situations where it may be a burden to buy a book for class. Purchasing classroom sets will help put a book into every student's hands, placing students on more even ground in the classroom.
