All students need a lift, especially in Gilroy right now. Gilroy has recently experienced a tragedy, we are a small community that supports our local festival through volunteerism. Almost all families know someone who was touched by this event, and nerves are frayed right now. I would like to create an safe, healthy environment in my classroom. A classroom that is welcoming in everything that they will have need of in their school day. My classroom is a special day class of kids on the autism spectrum or that have specific learning disabilities. We do everything in the classroom, reading, writing, math, and art. The students would be thrilled to each have their own sketch book to create in. We engage in regular curriculum Monday through Thursday, on Friday we do art and life skills such as cooking, sewing and budgeting. The last 20 minutes of everyday, we go out to the basketball courts to blow off steam and to exercise. This is a Title 1 school, where most of the students families are living at the poverty level and can not afford school supplies. These materials will help facilitate all areas of learning, and are very appreciated. Gilroy strong!
