When thinking about classrooms that I have been in as a student, I see interesting posters, extra supplies, fun seating arrangements, and cool lighting. I remember my drama teacher having a lamp and a comfy chair that we could go to and rehearse lines. That comfy chair was the reason I remembered half of my lines at all! I want to create a similar experience for my students as I had in that drama class. Flexible seating, tables, alternate lighting, and basic school supplies go in to creating a safe learning environment that students actually want to spend time in. By including these items in my room, I'm giving a pen to the student who needs a pen. I'm offering the student who can't focus an opportunity to sit someplace else. When my students are reading, the lamp goes on and it feels a little more like a home.
