Last year our elementary school adopted and became a STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) school site. Each week we engage our students through an engineer design model where they are asked to plan, design, create, improve and reflect on different problems and tasks. For our young learners it is crucial for them to have engaging, high interest and concrete materials to help them build, collaborate and problem solve with their peers. Materials such at the Crystal Climbers and Playstixs will make a difference in these young engineers by allowing their imagination and fine motor skills to build what ever is imaginable. All of the materials I have included are highly engaging, give students choice and teach them how to creativity work together while having collaborative conversations to problem solving.
