I have done this project for 10 years after introducing the seven Continents and how the world has changes throughout time. We learn about the different land formations, migration, ancient civilizations, how incredible our Earth is and the mysteries that lie in it. The students learn about anthropology and archeology and the several different types there are associated with it. I also arrange in the middle of the year to further their education a class trip to the Anthropology and Archeology Museum of U of P. This is grant funded and all students attend. I have found that through hands-on activities the students interest in subjects like history and science change becoming more positive. The students work in groups and after the excavation they have over 20 research questions they must answer as an anthropologist. This project really engages everyone. Students are teamed up with others with different strengths and new friendships are made especially when you are digging up something awesome!! I have always let the kids keep what they have found and take tons of pictures of them working then display them on a wall for everyone to see. The smiles are priceless and they do not even get upset about all the research they have to do after, I hope to have at least one student in my carrier become the world's leading archeologist or anthropologist from this little exciting spark.
