I need basketballs for skills and drills practice. My basketball team had never played on a school basketball team before last school year. However, to everyone’s surprise, my team won the league championship and the tournament championship. It was amazing. I want my students to experience the thrill of winning, but I know that this cannot happen unless they are trained. I cannot train them without basketballs and basketball goals. Playing sports is not just about winning, but it is also about learning good sportsmanship, respect, determination, humility, and many other attributes that make a successful individual. Acquiring basketballs and basketball goals are an important step toward the goal of making my students become successful individuals. Volleyballs and nets are also needed. Last school year was the first time my students played volleyball on a school team. They were shy and afraid to move about the court. We practiced our skills, drills, and volleying techniques everyday, and my students became a team. By the end of the season, they were no longer shy or afraid to go after the ball. They did not have nice uniforms (white tee shirts and black shorts), and they did not win the championship, but they were winners, because they learned the game and learned to be proud of themselves and their accomplishments. They learned that winning is not everything, but playing the game is just fun. I want my students to continue to enjoy the sport of volleyball, but this will not happen if we cannot acquire volleyballs. The same thing happened with the soccer team. Last school year was the first time my students had played soccer as a school team. When we finally were able to piece together equipment to form a team, my students practiced everyday and weekends.
