Throughout the day in my Kindergarten class the students are engaged in learning that takes place in various parts of the classroom. One of the busiest places of learning is what we refer to as the "teacher table". This is the place where their love of reading will develop and grow. Each day I work with small groups at this table and teach the children not only how to read, but how to love reading. Kindergarteners all have one thing in common and that is they need to move! These Wobble Chairs will provide my students the opportunity to release energy while simultaneously working on their reading skills at the teacher table. Also, many of my Kindergarteners come to school with poor fine and gross motor skills. These skills are essential to being successful in all areas of the Kindergarten curriculum. Studies have shown that wobble chairs can improve brain function and concentration, as well as help develop fine and gross motor skills. In fact, the Mayo Clinic in Rochester found that the ability to move around more while sitting made students more attentive! The study believes this is due to kids being able to burn off excess energy by bouncing or moving. And we all know how 5 year olds love to bounce and move!
