For the past five years, I have been emphasizing the importance of authentic math discussions in my classroom. In order for math discussions to be authentic and equitable all students need to participate. Therefore it is essential for me to be able to use an IPAD to track who is participating and take pictures of the students' work to show how their participation matches their understanding. Lets also go live with our math discussions. Students are often amazed when they can film each other and critique each others mathematical arguments. By adding an IPAD to my classroom, this can become standard practice and students can see themselves as mathematical debaters.
