It means the world to us that you have chosen to support our classroom and our hands-on exploration of ancient civilizations.\r\n\r\nYour donation will make a huge difference. Building 3D models of historical landmarks is one of the students' favorite projects, but struggling to cut cardboard has always been a point of frustration that could derail a student's entire vision. Because of your generosity, my students will now be able to easily bring their amazing ideas to life. You haven't just given us tools; you've given my students the confidence to see that their creativity has no limits.\r\n\r\nThank you for investing in my students and their learning. Students were very excited to use the Makey Makey's. \r\n\r\nHaving a class set versus borrowing them like in the past has made it so students can work on projects longer. They have enjoyed all the hands on examples that we would not be able to do in class due to lack of resources, space, and time. Nowadays, technology can be used as a resource such as watching these kid friendly videos. My students now sing along with the chorus parts of the videos, which I find heart warming: \"why do we need to know this? why? why? why?\" \"add and subtract, multiply and divide, we use fractions in everyday life...\"\r\n\r\nMy students and I really appreciate the donations for this program. Generation Genius provided lesson plans, fun activities, and videos that have helped make math (and science) more concrete. The math and science videos are age-appropriate and are a great addition to our curriculum. \r\n\r\nThe videos have allowed for hands-on learning that we cannot do in our classroom in fun and engaging ways while being standards-based for our state. The students have been so excited to use the Apple Pencils in the classroom!\r\n\r\nThe Apple Pencils have been used by students ranging from 3rd to 8th grade. Several students have created beautiful drawings in Procreate using the Apple Pencils. A small group of 4th graders even used them to create a Flip-a-Clip animation. The ease of drawing with the pencils made their work look even more polished. Additionally, a team of 6th graders created drawings in Procreate, which we printed and used as backgrounds for their stop-motion animations.\r\n\r\nThe USB iPad adapters have been incredibly helpful, as they allowed us to connect the iPads to Makey Makeys, since we don't have computers in the classroom. My students have benefited greatly from receiving this donation. One of my goals in creating a Calm Corner was to provide a space for my students to find a space to center themselves. The Calm Corner in my classroom has quickly become a favorite space among my students. It has become a gathering space for collaboration and a safe space for those who need it.\r\n\r\nAnother goal of the Calm Corner project was to provide a space for students to engage in independent reading. Although I teach Social Studies, as a former literacy teacher, I believe in the importance of creating intentional moments to read. In my observations, middle school students tend to either love reading or avoid it. I wanted to find ways for my students to find opportunities for reading and provide books at their level that would engage them.","fullyFundedDate":1691343247634,"projectUrl":"project/calm-corner-seating/7563644/","projectTitle":"Calm Corner Seating","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Gonzalez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8024972_orig.jpg?crop=100,100,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1741623546070","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8024972"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_5540","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":726,"numTeachers":31,"percentFrplEligible":40,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":4,"percentWhite":37,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":47,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"23.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":73.1,"schoolId":5540,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Brentano Math & Science Academy on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Brentano Math & Science Academy","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/illinois/chicago-public-school-district-299/brentano-math-science-acad/5540"}
