Kindergarten is a crucial year for building the foundation for lifelong learning. This is the year children begin to read independently and develop a love for reading. Young minds are taken on a journey, as "books are portable magic". Students will use the requested hands-on activities and games to aid in their learning of letter-sound correspondence, phonemic awareness, sight words, rhyming, word families, and concepts about print. Students work on developing fine motor skills as they learn to write the alphabet in both capital and lowercase form. And, believe it or not, they will begin writing short stories, journal entries, and poems. Students are able to meet new challenges with the right support, dedication, and tools. They should not be denied the necessities needed to excel in school. These students face enough daily challenges, classroom resources should not be one of them.
