My senior students struggle with a lot of things: family problems, anxiety, depression, the easy access of detrimental resources, the lack of access to opportunistic resources, even coming to school each day on time can be a Herculean event. And when they get there, their brains are so stuck, swimming through cortisol and adrenaline, that they cannot focus, function, or learn. I am requesting alternative seating for my classroom to give choices to students who don't have many, to engage their bodies improving their physical health, to provide them with comfort and to foster collaboration, community, and commitment to learning.
