My passion for teaching reading to sixth grade is finding novels that they enjoy reading. When students experience novels they can relate to, a love for reading develops. The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle is a Newberry award winning book. Engaging my students in reading will keep them wanting to read more. Many of my former students could not put this book down. I have since changed schools and need novel sets that I know work with this age group. This particular novel will give my students the opportunity to expand their minds with a view on history in the 1800s crossing the ocean on a ship. The protagonist in this book experiences many struggles and hardships on her trip back to America. The only way to become a better reader is to read! My sixth graders will benefit so much from this book.
