Much of what we do in a Reading class in 11th and 12th grade has turned to computer-based formats. In my class, students must be able to access websites that allow them to practice for the SAT and ACT since students can use those tests to meet graduation requirements. Students also use a program called Achieve 3000 that allows them to access articles and activities that help to strengthen their reading skills and levels. Many of my students do not speak any English or very little English, so they need as much practice as they can get. Most students have access to cell phones and internet, so for most, it is not a problem, but several of my students either do not have a cell phone or do not have any access to the internet. I also do not have any extra computers to give to them when they are without. I allow them to use my computer, but then I am without. Having access to a few Fire tablets will be very helpful in being able to access the websites and programs they need to be successful.
