I teach First Grade to students who have a wide range of academic ability. I have students who have never attended school before this year and students who have attended for three years. This project is designed to meet the needs of all students. For students who are just entering school, they need that sensory play that they would have received in Pre-School or Kindergarten. For this reason, we need a water and sand table and sand to fill it. I am also requesting items that will help address fine motor needs, like the scissor scoopers, tweezers, and fishing pole activities so that we can start building up the skills needed to start writing. The sand sifting activities can be used for all students to learn or reinforce letter and number knowledge. All kids learn through play! While the above activities are necessary for my early learners, they will also be enjoyed by the more advanced learners. To continue their learning, I picked out some activities that allow them to play games while reinforcing letter and number knowledge and sight words. This is just the beginning of a collection of activities I can use to best meet the needs of all of my students.
