The tools requested for our classroom will be used for cooking projects for our Practical Life class lessons. The toaster ovens will be used for cooking lessons where food is baked. Students will use the microwave for simpler recipes that can prepare them for cooking in their college dorm. The hot plate and pots and pans will be used to cook foods that would ordinarily be cooked on a stove top such as stir-fry, rice and pasta dishes. The eighth graders in this class are learning life skills that will prepare them for high school and beyond. Through cooking we are also developing other skills like math when we double or halve a recipe. We are learning about other cultures when we cook foods that are common in other parts of the world. We are furthering life skills in the serving, sharing, presenting, and cleaning up the foods we have prepared. The tools being requested would greatly improve the possibilities of the foods we can cook and skills we can learn.
