My students come from diverse backgrounds, but they share a desire to learn and an interest in technology. Technology in the classroom is an effective way to both engage students and give them an opportunity for experiential learning they might not otherwise have. This is especially important for my ELL students because they usually don't have the same access to technology as their peers and they don't always have the background knowledge that is needed to be successful in school. Through the use of iPads and educational applications, I hope to bridge this gap and help the students explore the world beyond our classroom. The students will be so excited to use the iPads because they are so versatile and the learning possibilities are endless. They will enhance my instruction and the students' creativity. The iPads can be used with augmented reality so that students can virtually experience new places. They offer multiple ways to respond; students can write, draw or record their answers. I will be able to use them to better differentiate and scaffold my instruction. This allows students of all proficiency levels to be engaged and active participants in every lesson. I plan to use the iPads in small group instruction and make them available for students to use during independent work time. They will have an important impact on student learning within the classroom, but will also help students develop the skills they need to be members of the global economy.
