We know reading is essential to student success- but if students don't have books they cannot read. My classroom library is currently made up of my higher level books from my childhood. While I do pick up books at thrift stores, having a base of strong literature would be so meaningful to my students. Many hate reading- but I am slowly getting them to love it by reading them classics like Because of Winn-Dixie and Holes. The books I have to offer them are not appropriate for their level. This year, I am assigning reading every night for their homework. We are having a competition to see who can read the most. They are so motivated, but I lack the supplies to quench their thirst to read. Please help me fill the shelves of my classroom!
