My students need flexible seating and fidgets while engaging in project based learning activities. My students Wiggle and fidget when working which helps students to focus as they gain knowledge and skills by working for an extended period of time, investigating, and responding to engaging questions, problems, and challenges. Flexible setting and fidgets will allow them to move without disturbing others during the learning process. Best practices have proven giving students access to alternative seating like wiggle cushions, flexible seats, and fidgets significantly increase attention, time on task, and therefore increase learning in our Special Education Classroom. When using flexible seating and fidgets during learning projects students are able to focus their movements constructively while completing their assignments. They are more alert and ready to learn. Being able to move prompts focus and concentration. Studies have also shown that being able to fidget and move can help reduce stress and anxiety.
