During small group times, there are two groups working with a teacher. Due to our classroom size, we only have enough room for one table. My students have shared that they wished they had something more comfortable to sit on when working in small groups. Imagine how inviting it would be to have students to choose what they want to sit on while working in groups with teachers or with a partner! My students don't want to spend more time sitting at their desks; center time is their chance to choose a comfortable working spot all around the room. The problem is that right now we don't have many cozy spots. I know that if I fix this seating problem with flexible seating, my students will be flocking to complete their work! A classroom should be a welcoming place where students are comfortable enough to put all their attention towards learning. With only straight-back chairs at desks and the hard floor as seating, my students often avoid tasks that require a lot of sitting still, like independent reading practice. With your help, I can transform my classroom into an environment welcoming to learning independently, in groups, or with partners. Our group time will be so fun that students will never want it to end!
