My students have all encountered failure in the regular education classroom. They struggle understanding concepts and making progress in the county mandated curriculums. Having access to hands-on math tools and learning centers will help me create more engaging lessons to meet their individual needs. By donating to my project, you will provide each of my students with the opportunity to successfully tackle math by touching it, seeing it, hearing it, and ultimately "getting it". They struggle working in a work book, expected to think abstractly without opportunities to truly "experience" math. They learn better when they can touch it, move it, play with it, connect with it. These items will provide them with many hands on learning opportunities leading to their success. The snap and slide number bonds and double dice will support my lessons in teaching part part whole relationships. Students struggle understanding the relationship between addition and subtraction. They need to have a solid understanding that numbers can be put together and taken apart. The snap and slide number bonds will allow them opportunities to slide numbers together (add) to create "bigger" numbers, and slide them apart (subtract) to find missing parts. Allowing them to touch and experience math this way will increase their understanding of addition and subtraction. The double dice will support mental math activities enabling them to practice adding/subtracting using counting strategies taught in small groups. For example, counting on from the number on one dice to the other to subtract/add. Additionally, the hands on number grid will support lessons geared towards teaching children how to recognized patterns in 2 digit numbers and to use these patterns to add and subtract multiples of 10. "Hopping up and down" on the hundreds chart to add and subtract multiples of ten. "sliding left to right" to add/subtract
