Studies have shown that if a child is not a fluent reader by the end of third grade, they will struggle the rest of their academic career. With these cards, trackers, and timers, my students will be able to work on their own or with each other practicing reading with fluency (speed, accuracy, and emotion). Practice makes perfect. With more practice, reading becomes easier and more natural. This leads to greater confidence in themselves and an increase in the enjoyment they find in all that they read. Making it fun and engaging will help them look forward each day during our reading time.
