“People acquiring a second language have the best chance for success through reading” - Stephen Krashen PhD I have carefully chosen these books and graphic novels according to our English language learner's backgrounds, interests, and reading levels. These books and graphic novels will be used for daily 10 minute read alouds. Read alouds are one of the single most effective strategies for modeling reading fluency, generating interest in reading, improving vocabulary and listening skills while providing a platform for discussing story structure and other literary elements. In addition to the read alouds, the books and graphic novels will be available for students to borrow and read during independent reading time, as well as outside of class.
