My students need access to low brass instruments, like the euphonium. (If you don't know what a euphonium is, just imagine a baby tuba!) These instruments provide the foundation of sound when a band plays together as a group, but they're also wonderful when played by themselves. Euphonium is also a great instrument for elementary students who are interested in the tuba, but who might need to grow a bit more before they can handle a tuba. Euphoniums are often too expensive for my students' families to rent or purchase, so borrowing one from the school might be the only way a student can join band on this instrument. Adding students to the low brass section of the band leads to a better overall sound for the group, and it increases the number of students who get to experience music.
